Transforming Financial Management for the Everyday User

Fivvy aimed to revolutionize how people manage their finances, especially for those struggling with credit scores and overall financial health. Our goal was to provide comprehensive tools to centralize and simplify financial management, ensuring users have a clear and actionable view of their financial status.

Project Overview

Financial freedom for the regular Joe / Jane

Fivvy’s primary goal was to provide users with tools to centralize their financial management, offering features like an overall financial status overview, upcoming due dates, credit card health, subscription payment tracking, and transaction history analysis.

My Role As the UX/UI and Product Designer, I was responsible for the design system, product roadmap planning, user research, benchmarking, and ensuring the quality of design handoffs to developers.

Technical Challenge and Solution

It works on my machine!
We encountered a significant usability issue with our payment recommendation system. The system was initially designed to ask users for input during transactions, which caused delays and frustration, especially in fast-paced environments like supermarket checkout lines.

Leveraging my technical knowledge, I identified that we already had access to users’ financial data through initial account setups. By analyzing these pre-existing data points, I proposed a solution that allowed us to offer payment recommendations based on users' transaction history without requiring real-time input. This adjustment drastically reduced friction and provided users with immediate value, improving their experience and satisfaction.

Wrapping up

Results and Impact

This change not only enhanced the user experience but also shortened the time-to-value for users. The project secured significant investment, attracted a growing user base, and received notable media attention, including a feature on Bloomberg TV.

Reflection

From this project, I learned the importance of integrating technical knowledge with user-centered design to solve complex problems effectively. I also reinforced the value of continuous user feedback and agile iterations.

By blending my technical expertise, service industry insights, and a user-first design approach, I strive to create products that not only meet business objectives but also provide exceptional user experiences.
